By and large, digital books and readers have given people a new and convenient way to pump more knowledge into their craniums. So far, I haven’t read a single work on Kindle that seemed any less a work of art than in paper form. If a work is changed or tinkered with in the future, I’m not sure that I would either notice or care – unless authors begin to do to their books what Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have begun to do to their films, changing them so radically that the books themselves are hardly recognizable. Notably, most filmmakers are not engaging in this sort of vanity. I doubt most authors would either. The way we read is changing, to be sure, and I think that’s great.
